"We almost missed it entirely."
It had been a rainy, cloudy week in Quebec. After a semi-failed sunset shoot, a group of us sat down for dinner at a local restaurant — not exactly expecting much from the night. Then someone pulled out their phone and checked the NOAA app. We were in a 10 out of 10 northern lights activity zone.
We finished dinner and headed back to the cabin. For a while, we'd take turns sliding open the kitchen door and staring up at the sky, not totally sure if anything was happening. Finally, someone pointed a camera straight up and took a shot. On the screen — a faint green glow that the naked eye couldn't quite make out. That was enough. We grabbed the gear and headed outside.
What followed was hours of the sky putting on a full show. This photo is from that night.
